The Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Nurseor department Manager, is responsible for the development andimplementation of direct patient care under the provisions of theMass. State Practice Act. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursingprocess and collaborates with the other health care disciplines todeliver holistic patient care to patients of all ages. TheRegistered Nurse assesses and delegates appropriate assignments toLPNs and unlicensed personnel. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES ANDDUTIES: * Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient'shealth or the situation. Analyzes the assessment data to determinethe diagnoses or issues. Identifies expected outcomes for a planindividualized to the patient or the situation. * Develops a planthat prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expectedoutcomes. Implements and coordinates the identified plan/caredelivering. * Employs strategies to promote health and a safeenvironment. Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes. *Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursingpractice. Participates in quality improvement activities. * Attainsknowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice.Evaluates one's own nursing practice in relation to professionalpractice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, andregulations. Interacts with and contributes to the professionaldevelopment of students, peers and colleagues. * Collaborates withpatient, family and others in the conduct of nursing practice.Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of practice. *Integrates research findings into practice. Actively participatesin research activities at various levels appropriate to the nurse'slevel of education and position. * The RN demonstrates clinicalcompetency and professional commitment in nursing practice byadhering to established standards of practice and regulations whileperforming treatments and procedures. The Registered Nurse inInfusion therapy demonstrates clinical competency by adhering tostandards and guidelines recommended for infusion therapy practice.The Registered Nurse in Oncology demonstrates clinical competencyby adhering to the standards in the ONS Chemotherapy and BiotherapyGuidelines recommendation for practice. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLSAND ABILITIES: * Massachusetts License with Current Registration.CPR certified. Credentialed in area of practice preferred.Medical/Surgical experience preferred for all areas. * Basiccomputer skills required. Effective communication, organizationaland critical thinking skills. * ACLS required upon hire or sixmonths after employment (critical care, IMC, ER, SpecialProcedures, PACU and O/P Med Surg.). * Critical Care & ER:Previous critical care experience preferred. * Family Life Center:Previous Maternal Child Health experience preferred. Neonatalresuscitation certification upon hire or six months afteremployment. * Critical Care Float: Two years of critical careexperience required. * IMC: Basic Arrhythmia course required. * IVTeam: PICC Line Certification. * RN Oncology: Minimum two (2) yearsof oncology experience required. Radiation and medical oncology orcombination preferred. Excellent IV skills required. BSN preferred.OCN certification and/or eligible preferred. * RN Infusion: Minimumtwo years of oncology experience required. Excellent IV skills andACLS required. * Behavioral Health: One (1) year psychiatric orsubstance abuse nursing experience preferred. Must possessknowledge of general psychiatric nursing processes, therapeuticrelationships and processes, age-specific growth and development,limit setting, behavior and crisis management. CPI certified, orsimilar applied non-violence skills training, within 30 days ofhire. CPR certified within 30 days of hire. WORKING CONDITIONS: *Constant exposure to unpleasant tasks (handling garbage or soiledlinen, strongly unpleasant odors, etc.) and occasional exposure toone or more very unpleasant physical working conditions; oroccasional exposure to serious injury (crushed fingers, extensiveburns, broken bones); and regular and routine exposure tooccupational hazards or contagious disease which requires standardprecautions. * Frequent home and social life inconvenience, eventhough predictable on most occasions or regular volume of work anddeadlines impose strain on routine basis or work location imposesfrequent un-welcomed interruptions. * Requires considerablephysical effort on a consistent basis as in lifting, pulling orpushing objects (heavy, bulky, awkward, more than 40 lbs.) * RNOncology: Requires handling, dispensing of hazardous drugs,chemotherapy agents and blood products. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: *Reports to the Nurse Manager or Department Head. * Has noresponsibility for the direct supervision of any other employees.Apply
