Department OverviewThis position has the potential to be fully remote OR in Portland, OR at the South Waterfront campus.The Research Associate provides high-level professional support in analytic activities at the Center for Health Systems Effectiveness (CHSE). The Center is devoted to transforming health systems through actionable cross-disciplinary and collaborative research. CHSE is committed to diversity and providing a welcoming, inclusive work environment.Function/Duties of PositionThe Research Associate will participate in the design, data management, analysis, and dissemination of findings for a variety of health services research projects.Major components of the work include:* Collaboration with Principal Investigators and other CHSE staff to design, manage, implement and interpret statistical analyses focused on healthcare expenditures, utilization and quality* Creation and management of large and complex administrative claims datasets* Statistical analysis using R, Stata or SAS* Development of validation processes to ensure data quality* Rigorous documentation of methods and other practices that ensure reproducibility of results* Innovation and problem-solving at all stages of research* Contribution to development of manuscripts and other reports via writing, interpretation of results, creation of compelling data visualizations, and editing* Coordination and management of a diverse set of research activities on multiple projects* A commitment to continuing education and self-improvement as well as participation in cross-education and knowledge sharing with other staff via trainings and presentations* Performing other duties as requested by the Supervisor or Center DirectorRequired Qualifications* Master's Degree with major courses in statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, epidemiology or economics and 3 years of relevant experience; OR Bachelor's Degree with major courses in statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, epidemiology or economics and 5 years of relevant experience* Strong coding skills using R, Stata or SAS* Proficient knowledge of statistical methods including experience with statistical models using R, Stata, or SAS* Proficiency in research activities including managing, analyzing, and summarizing data; study design, research methodologies; knowledge of economics, epidemiology, health services, and/or health policy* Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions and maintain thorough documentation of the decision-making process* Exemplary communication skills and ability to effectively present research findings to diverse audiences within and outside OHSU* Strong commitment to rigorous research methods, objectivity and accuracy of findings, and reproducibility of resultsPreferred Qualifications* Demonstrated experience in claims data management and analysis, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance data* Working knowledge of SQL* Knowledge of racial health disparities and the factors that cause them; experience working with diverse populations and in diverse environments* Knowledge of Medicaid reform, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and healthcare payment reformAdditional DetailsApply here online.
